Ruled out against Belgium

Mendy (knee) won't play Wednesday versus Belgium in the World Cup round of 32 as he's not completely recovered from his injury, about which Senegal coach Pape Thiaw commented "Mendy went back to see the doctors of his club for additional tests. He came back with the group. Even if he won't be fit to play tomorrow, he will be by our side. We hope to win so that he can join us for the rest of the competition.", Khadim Diakhate of Dsports reports.

Analysis: Mendy could return to action during the international event only if his team achieves an unlikely qualification for the next stage, having already missed one game due to the injury. The goalkeeper had previously started in the first two group-stage matches, tallying eight saves and six goals conceded over that span. Mory Diaw will be expected to retain the starting spot between the posts until Mendy is cleared to see game action.

Not training Tuesday

Mendy (knee) was still absent from group work Tuesday, after which he's expected to rejoin the squad, per Khadim Diakhate of Dsports.

Analysis: Mendy is the only injury doubt for Senegal ahead of a crucial meeting with Belgium, with the keeper recently undergoing medical treatment in Jeddah as he hopes to recover in time for national team action. Prior to the issue, he started in the first two group-stage matches, tallying eight saves and six goals conceded in that period. He would be Senegal's top No. 1 option at full health, but otherwise Mory Diaw will continue to fill in.
