Called into Netherlands squad
Zirkzee has been called into the Netherlands squad, replacing the injured Brian Brobbey, according to the club.
Analysis: Zirkzee has made four appearances for Manchester United this season and has earned six caps for the Netherlands, all under previous coach Ronald Koeman, including a goal in a 5-2 win over Bosnia in September 2024. This call up now gives him a chance for his first international minutes since November of that year, with the Netherlands set to play three more Nations League fixtures against Serbia and Greece during the extended break.
Takes one shot in rare start
Zirkzee generated one shot (zero on goal) in Saturday's 0-0 draw against Sunderland. In addition, he was given a yellow card in the 58th minute.
Analysis: Zirkzee was handed a rare start up front with Benjamin Sesko sidelined through injury and Bryan Mbeumo beginning the game on the bench. The forward played 65 minutes, nearly double the total he had logged since February, but struggled to make an impact, managing just one shot and failing to add to his tally of two goals in 22 appearances (five starts) this season.
