Solid in the back against USA
Mechele had two tackles (one won) and five clearances and committed one foul in Monday's 4-1 win over USA.
Analysis: Mechele wasn't under too much pressure and did a nice job in shackling down Folarin Balogun throughout the fixture, putting up stats in the back, even though Belgium were once again unable to secure a clean sheet. He has recorded at least five clearances in all five contests, racking up 32 and posting five tackles (four won), two interceptions and two blocks and helping blank the opponents once during that stretch. On the other hand, he failed to take a shot after doing so in the previous four bouts.
Notches eight clearances
Mechele recorded one shot (zero on goal) and two chances created in Wednesday's 3-2 win against Senegal. In addition, he was given a yellow card in the 64th minute.
Analysis: Mechele played the full 120 minutes Wednesday in the middle of the defense, still having yet to leave the field for Belgium this tournament. He will be upset by the two goals allowed, but still had a decent day in the defense, notching eight clearances. He remains a clear starter as Belgium remains in the 2026 World Cup, notching two interceptions, three tackles and 27 clearances in four starts.
