Involved in two of five goals
Kubo scored a goal with his lone shot and had an assist with his lone chance created while crossing three times (one accurate) during Sunday's 5-2 win over Malaga.
Analysis: Kubo opened the scoring in the 3rd minute before setting up Mikel Oyarzabal in the 59th while leading Sociedad with his three crosses. The goal involvements were the first this season for Kubo as he made his first start since September 3rd.
Ruled out against Brazil
Kubo (knee) will not play against Brazil, with coach Hajime Moriyasu confirming he has not yet joined collective training and has only been able to do individual running work, according to Football Zone. "Regarding the match against Brazil, Takefusa will not be able to play. He still hasn't joined collective training and has only been able to do individual running training, so he won't play in tomorrow's match. We also hope he recovers soon, and he is rushing his condition along."
Analysis: Kubo's continued absence from team training leaves his return date uncertain, with Japan needing to navigate their round of 32 fixture against Brazil without one of their most important attacking options. The winger's recovery will continue to be monitored closely as Japan hope to advance further in the tournament and give him a chance to feature again.
