Elisha Owusu
Departs Auxerre for Erzurumspor
Owusu has left Auxerre to sign with newly promoted Turkish side Erzurumspor, the club announced.
Analysis: Owusu joined Auxerre from Gent in January 2023, and despite an injury that delayed his debut, went on to help the club win the Ligue 2 title before two solid seasons in Ligue 1, the latter as captain. The Ghanaian international, capped for the last two World Cups, made 93 appearances for Auxerre and scored two memorable goals during his time at the club. Owusu is expected to bring his experience and leadership qualities to Erzurumspor as the club prepares for its return to the Turkish top flight. His move marks a new chapter after building a strong reputation for his professionalism and competitiveness in France.
Subbed off at halftime against Croatia
Owusu recorded one cross (zero accurate), one block and one tackle (one won) and committed two fouls in Saturday's 2-1 loss versus Croatia.
Analysis: Owusu got the call for the second time in the competition after not featuring versus England, but he had a silent display in the midfield and was replaced at the interval after a few errant passes and rough fouls. Abdul Fatawu outplayed him off the bench following a tactical switch, while he took Caleb Yirenkyi's place in this one, who was at risk of getting suspended. Owusu has logged three crosses (zero accurate), four tackles (two won) and one clearance in two outings.
Two crosses in WC opener
Owusu recorded two crosses (zero accurate) and three tackles in Wednesday's 1-0 win against Panama.
Analysis: Owusu started in Ghana's three-man midfield in Wednesday's opener, joining Caleb Yerenkyi and Kamaldeen Sulemana. His contributions were easy to miss as he did not contribute much on either end of the pitch, rather simply acting as a traditional central midfielder versus Panama. He still helped keep a clean sheet during his time on the pitch as he won three duels, two tackles and made one clearance before he was replaced by Kwasi Sibo in the 78th minute. He will likely have more defensive responsibilities Tuesday versus England, a side that will try to dominate possession and pepper the Ghana goal with shots.
Plays full game
Owusu had one tackle (one won), two clearances and one interception in Sunday's 2-0 victory versus Lille.
Analysis: Owusu recorded just eight passes and also made a block. He led his team to safety, featuring in 29 games (27 starts), but did not register a single goal. However, he averaged over two tackles and a clearance per game.
