Suspension over
Lasheen is no longer suspended and is an option for Egypt's round of 16 match against Argentina.
Analysis: Lasheen had to serve a game on the sidelines after two yellow cards in the group stage, unavailable to face Australia. However, he will now return to face the former World Champions, a major boost for the team after three straight starts in the group stage. That said, he will likely start in their round of 16 tie, sending Hamdy Fathy back to the bench after his start in the round of 32.
Suspended for round of 32
Lasheen will miss Egypt's round of 32 clash against Australia on June 30 after picking up his second yellow card of the tournament.
Analysis: Lasheen's suspension is a blow for Egypt's setup heading into the knockout stage, with the coaching staff needing to find a replacement option in his absence for what promises to be a crucial fixture. Lasheen started all three games so far in the competition and Marwan Ateya will be expected to find back a starting role against the Socceroos.
Four tackles won and yellow card
Lasheen logged five tackles (four won), two clearances, one interception and one block during Egypt's 3-1 win Sunday against New Zealand.
Analysis: Again, the defensive part of Egypt's midfield included an aggressive duo of Marwan Ateya and Lasheen. The latter maintaining his intensity mostly paid off. Like the Egypt-Belgium game, Lasheen logged Egypt's most tackles won, which he has 10 of between his appearances. Only the Lasheen-Ateya duo logged at least one block, which was warranted considering New Zealand's arguably potent offense against Egypt. Unfortunately for Lasheen, after clipping Sarpreet Singh's upper body with his right foot, another booking means he must be out for at least one game. So, going into Egypt's future matchups, Lasheen will need to be much more careful, though said approach should not completely stop his defensive intensity in needed areas.
Dominant midfield defensive display
Mohanad Lasheen recorded one cross (zero accurate) and eight tackles in Monday's 1-1 draw versus Belgium.
Analysis: Lasheen held onto his spot in the double pivot despite his costly error in the last friendly against Brazil, trusted by coach Hossam Hassan for the physicality and defensive intensity he brings. He justified that faith with a commanding performance, leading all players with eight tackles and winning six, while three interceptions and two blocks rounded off an impressive defensive display.
