Makes debut in Carabao Cup
Methalie logged 65 minutes on his Sunderland debut in Tuesday's 1-0 Carabao Cup victory over Hull City.
Analysis: Methalie was handed his first opportunity for Sunderland as manager Regis Le Bris made wholesale changes to his starting XI for the cup tie. The defender helped Sunderland keep a clean sheet during his 65 minutes on the pitch before the more experienced Thomas Meunier took over. The debut represents an encouraging first step as Methalie looks to establish himself within the first-team rotation, though he is likely to remain behind Sunderland's more established defensive options for regular Premier League minutes.
Completes Sunderland move
Methalie completed a permanent transfer from Toulouse to Sunderland on Friday.
Analysis: Methalie had been heavily linked with a move to the Black Cats in recent weeks, and the deal has officially gone through just before the start of the 2026/27 Premier League season. Methalie is one of the best left-back prospects in France and should compete for a role on the left side of the defense with Reinildo.
