Unai Egiluz

Egiluz has resumed individual outdoor training on Athletic Club's training pitch after recovering from a second right knee operation, although the defender remains far from returning to competitive action, according to Onda Vasco Deportes.

Analysis: Egiluz has reached an important milestone in his lengthy rehabilitation after undergoing a second right knee operation in June to replace the graft from his previous ACL reconstruction. The center-back missed the entire 2025/26 campaign following his initial ACL injury sustained during preseason, and the subsequent procedure significantly extended his absence. He has now started working individually outdoors on Athletic Club's training pitch, marking encouraging progress after several months of recovery. However, Egiluz remains a considerable distance from resuming full team training, and there is still no confirmed timeline for his return to competitive action. The defender will need to gradually increase his physical workload before being cleared for contact training, with the club expected to maintain a cautious approach given his history of knee problems.

Undergoes successful surgery

Egiluz (knee) has undergone successful surgery on his right knee to replace the graft from his previous ACL reconstruction, the club announced.

Analysis: Egiluz did not make a single appearance for Athletic Club in 2025/26 while rehabilitating from the original ACL injury sustained in preseason, and the latest setback represents another significant blow to his career. The center-back now faces a lengthy recovery process, with a best-case scenario potentially seeing him out of action until the winter of 2027.
