Transfers to Villarreal
Saliba completed a permanent transfer from Anderlecht to Villarreal on Tuesday.
Analysis: Saliba represented Canada at the 2026 FIFA World Cup and was poised to be an important player for Anderlecht in the 2026/27 campaign, but he instead completed a move to Villarreal. He'll be the third Canadian player on the roster alongside Tajon Buchanan and Tani Oluwaseyi. Saliba should compete for minutes in the middle of the park in Inigo Perez's 4-2-3-1 tactic.
Starts again
Saliba had three tackles (one won) and three interceptions in Sunday's 1-0 victory versus South Africa. In addition, he was given a yellow card in the 54th minute.
Analysis: Saliba would earn the start again Sunday as he fills in for Ismael Kone after a broken leg, playing 59 minutes against South Africa. He would see most of his work in the defense, notching three interceptions and three tackles. He would also earn a yellow card, needing to be careful as they enter the round of 16.
