Signs contract extension until 2030
El-Faouzi has signed a contract extension with Schalke until summer 2030, the club announced.
Analysis: El-Faouzi started all 34 second division matches in the promotion-winning campaign after joining from Alemannia Aachen, completing the full 90 minutes in 31 of those outings while leading the entire league in total distance covered and number of high-intensity runs. Sporting director Youri Mulder praised his quality and mentality while acknowledging his standing as a sought-after player on the transfer market following his outstanding season, with the extension also serving as recognition for his performances. El-Faouzi expressed his happiness at the club and his excitement to begin his first Bundesliga campaign, having also received a call-up to the Morocco national team preparation camp ahead of the World Cup following his impressive season.
Defensive midfield workhorse
El-Faouzi ended the season as one of Schalke's most reliable performers, contributing two goals and five assists across more than 3,000 minutes in what was a near-ever-present campaign from defensive midfield.
Analysis: El-Faouzi combined his ball-winning instincts with an unexpected creative output, registering an assist in the crucial 2-1 win at Elversberg among his standout performances. El-Faouzi heads into the Bundesliga as a key cog in Schalke's midfield engine, with his consistency and durability throughout the promotion campaign making him one of the most important figures in the squad.
