Providing defensive depth
O'Brien has played just 16 minutes across two Premier League appearances this season, while completing 90 minutes in the Carabao Cup.
Analysis: O'Brien has been limited to a reserve role, with James Tarkowski and Jarrad Branthwaite firmly ahead of him in the central defensive hierarchy. He can also provide cover at right-back, though Ainsley Maitland-Niles is preferred in that position, further restricting his path to regular minutes. O'Brien has at least remained match-ready during the international break, playing the full 90 minutes for Ireland against Kosovo.
Nets first goal of season
O'Brien scored one goal to go with one shot (one on goal) in Monday's 3-3 draw versus Manchester City. In addition, he was given a yellow card in the 86th minute.
Analysis: O'Brien had a major moment Monday as he gave Everton the lead before their eventual draw, bagging a headed goal in the 73rd minute. This comes as his first goal of the season, and only his second goal contribution. He also recorded one interception, two tackles and three clearances in the defense.
