Mixed outing in third-place defeat

Gusto had three tackles (three won) and two crosses (zero accurate) during Saturday's 6-4 loss versus England.

Analysis: Gusto saw his offensive production overshadowed by the six goals against during a frenetic game. He barely played in the 2026 World Cup and only made the initial lineup in the last match so that Jules Kounde could get some rest. Over his 117 minutes on the field, Gusto generated five tackles, two crosses and one chance created. At 23 years old, he should find plenty more international call-ups in the future, especially if he continues to produce at the club level for Chelsea.

Minor bruise, fine for Iraq

Gusto downplayed concerns over his ankle after a collision with Lucas Digne in training Wednesday, describing the issue as a small bruise that should be fine following treatment, according to Loic Tanzi of L'Equipe. "Everything is fine, I took a little stud from Lucas who maybe wasn't very happy. I will just have treatment today, it's a small bruise, it should be fine."

Analysis: Gusto did not finish Wednesday's training session but the reassuring update suggests there is no serious concern ahead of France's second group fixture against Iraq on June 22. The Chelsea right-back remains an option behind Jules Kounde in the battle for the starting spot, and his quick recovery removes any lingering doubt heading into the tournament's pivotal stages.
