Facing 10 to 12 days out
Romero (adductor) is expected to miss approximately 10 to 12 days after medical examinations Sunday confirmed a low-grade adductor strain sustained during Saturday's clash against Espanyol, according to Marca.
Analysis: Romero requested to be substituted shortly after the hour mark against Espanyol after experiencing muscular discomfort, with subsequent tests confirming a minor adductor injury. The Argentine center-back will miss Tuesday's Champions League trip to Stuttgart and Saturday's La Liga encounter against Deportivo, leaving manager Diego Simeone without a key defensive option. Robin Le Normand and Marc Pubill are the leading candidates to replace Romero in central defense during his absence. Atletico are hopeful he can return against Levante, although the club intends to avoid rushing his recovery ahead of important fixtures against Bayern Munich and Barcelona.
Won't debut vs. Villarreal
Romero (fitness) is not in the squad for Sunday's game against Villarreal.
Analysis: Romero has been participating in training, but the center-back won't make his Atletico debut this weekend against El Submarino Amarillo. His next chance to play will come Saturday at Sevilla, and in the meantime, David Hancko, Robin Le Normand and Marc Pubill remain the available options at center-back.
