Picks up lower leg issue

Egan picked up a lower leg issue following a collision during Tuesday's Carabao Cup defeat to Sunderland, according to coach Sergej Jakirovic, per Hull Live. "Yeah, he had a blast with an opponent player and I think everything is good there but we will see"

Analysis: Egan was able to complete the match despite appearing uncomfortable following the second-half collision, and he will undergo further assessment to determine the extent of the issue. The defender has been a key part of Hull's back line, playing every minute of the club's opening three Premier League matches this season. Any absence would therefore represent a notable loss, with Lucas Herrington and Paddy McNair among the options who could see increased minutes at center-back.

Veteran leads backline

Egan was one of Hull's most consistent performers throughout the promotion campaign, making 45 appearances across all competitions and contributing three goals from center-back as one of the key figures in the defensive unit.

Analysis: Egan made 45 Championship appearances this season, posting 58 tackles and 40 interceptions as one of the key figures in Hull's defensive unit throughout the promotion campaign. The 33-year-old Irish international's experience, leadership and organizational ability made him an indispensable presence in coach Sergej Jakirovic's backline, with his ability to read the game and communicate with those around him giving Hull defensive stability throughout a demanding season. His aerial threat from set pieces adds an additional attacking weapon that proved valuable at Championship level, and while the Premier League will pose a more significant challenge, Egan's experience competing in the top flight during previous spells gives him a realistic chance of contributing meaningfully. His leadership will be particularly important as Hull City look to establish themselves in the Premier League with a squad containing several younger players.
