Contributes during winning cameo
Merino recorded one shot (zero on goal) and one cross (zero accurate) in Sunday's 1-0 win versus Nottingham Forest.
Analysis: Merino recorded one off-target shot and one cross across 24 minutes off the bench in Sunday's 1-0 victory at Nottingham Forest. He entered alongside Viktor Gyokeres and Jurrien Timber in the 66th minute as Arsenal made a triple substitution designed to improve their attacking threat after struggling to break down Forest's defense. Merino offered an additional presence in midfield during the closing stages as Arsenal eventually found the breakthrough through Noni Madueke before protecting their narrow advantage.
Makes late appearance
Merino recorded no stats in Saturday's 2-0 victory against Sunderland.
Analysis: Merino entered for the closing five minutes with Arsenal looking to see out the victory, leaving him little time to make an impact on the contest. The midfielder remains behind several options for regular minutes in a deep Arsenal midfield, and Saturday's brief cameo continued his limited role early in the campaign. He'll remain a rotational option as manager Mikel Arteta manages his midfield across multiple competitions.
