Signs with Atlanta
Embolo has completed a transfer to Atlanta United from Rennes, according to his new club.
Analysis: Embolo is off to the United States again after serving in the 2026 World Cup with Switzerland, as the forward inks a deal to join Atlanta United. This is a major move for an MLS club and a major move for a struggling team, likely to immediately have a new starting option at forward after the loan of Emmanuel Latte Lathe. Embolo is coming off two goals and two assists at the World Cup while also netting eight goals and three assists with Rennes in the 2025/26 campaign, a forward with plenty of quality for MLS play.
Struggles against Colombia
Embolo had two clearances in Tuesday's 0-0 (4-3) penalty shootout win against Colombia.
Analysis: Embolo faced a difficult challenge against center-backs Jhon Lucumi and Davinson Sanchez, and was held without a goal or assist for the first time in the 2026 World Cup after being directly involved in a goal in four straight outings. The striker is still Switzerland's top offensive contributor with two goals and two assists across five matches played, and he should continue to lead the front line in the quarterfinals versus an Argentinian defense that allowed two goals in each of the previous two games.
