Starts in Carabao Cup
Schar started and played the full 90 minutes in Tuesday's 1-0 Carabao Cup win over Millwall.
Analysis: Schar was back in competitive play for the Magpies once again, his first time playing in a competitive match since January, as he recorded the full 90 against Millwall. This is a bright sign for the defender as he looks to bid for time in league play again, adding some depth to the bench. He could still function as a useful rotational pick in the defense once fully fit, pushing for time behind Malick Thiaw, Sven Botman and Dan Burn (ankle).
Begins offseason training
Schar (foot) has started to train in the gym ahead of the 2026/27 season after ending the 2025/26 season injured, according to his club.
Analysis: Schar ended the last campaign with a foot injury, as he did not feature for the final few months after suffering the injury in January. However, he is now trending in the right direction, as the defender is training and should be set for a return come the start of the season. He started in 11 of his 16 appearances before the injury last season and received an extension for the 2026/27 season, although he could see a lesser role this campaign, with Malick Thiaw, Sven Botman and Dan Burn all bidding for minutes at center-back.
