FreiburgExtends contract with Freiburg
Grifo has agreed to extend his contract with Freiburg, the club announced.
Analysis: Grifo is already the club's all time leading scorer and assist provider with 108 goals and 98 assists, and ranks fourth in appearances with 360 across all competitions. He first joined Freiburg for the 2015-16 season, immediately winning the second division title and promotion to the Bundesliga, before spells at Borussia Monchengladbach and Hoffenheim, returning to Freiburg on loan in January 2019 and permanently that summer. Grifo is expected to continue playing a central role for the club both on the pitch and as a leader in the locker room, with sporting director Klemens Hartenbach describing him as a key figure for the entire group. At 33, he says he still has personal goals to chase and remains driven by competition from Freiburg's younger players as he continues his career in the city he now calls home.

Analysis: Grifo assisted Igor Matanovic as Freiburg lost 3-2 to Hamburg. This is his fourth assist of the season, having also scored seven goals in the Bundesliga campaign. The winger also assisted as Freiburg booked a place in the Europa League final. This makes it five assists that he has provided in his last seven games in all competitions.

Grifo assisted twice to go with two shots (zero on goal), four crosses (one accurate) and three corners in Sunday's 2-1 win against FC Heidenheim.
Analysis: Grifo assisted both of his side's goals Sunday, Johan Manzambi's opener in the 24th minute and then Maximilian Eggestein's winner in the 83rd. He created a season-high four chances in the victory and now has 10 goal contributions in Bundesliga play this season. With big matches upcoming in the German Cup and the Europa League -- and not much to play for anymore in the Bundesliga -- he may see his minutes reduce in the four remaining Bundesliga fixtures to keep him fresh for the other cups.
