Allows one against Athletic
Vlachodimos made six saves and allowed one goal in Saturday's 3-1 victory against Athletic.
Analysis: Vlachodimos had a decent outing Saturday as Sevilla beat Athletic, with the goalie only allowing one while making six saves. This is now one goal allowed in both games to start the season, yet to bag a clean sheet. He will get ready to face Atletico Madrid on Aug. 29, likely to be a tough outing for the keeper.
Returns to Sevilla on loan
Vlachodimos will spend a second consecutive season on loan at Sevilla from Newcastle United, the club announced.
Analysis: Vlachodimos arrived at the Sanchez-Pizjuan a year ago and quickly established himself as the first-choice goalkeeper, playing every minute of 33 LaLiga fixtures plus one Copa del Rey match in a campaign that helped the club achieve their seasonal objective. His performances throughout the season convinced the club to bring him back for another year, with his consistency and command of his penalty area making him one of the more reliable options between the posts in the division. The 32-year-old Greek international had previously spent five outstanding seasons at Benfica, where he made 225 appearances including 32 in the Champions League and won two Portuguese league titles, before moves to Nottingham Forest and Newcastle limited his playing time significantly. His return to the Iberian Peninsula has clearly reignited his form, and Sevilla will be counting on him to build on last season's strong performances heading into the 2026-27 campaign.
