Returns from hamstring injury
Werner returned to action in Friday's 2-1 friendly loss against Tijuana, marking his comeback from the hamstring injury that had kept him sidelined since May, the club posted.
Analysis: Werner had been targeting a return either in late May or shortly after the World Cup, and his appearance in the friendly is an encouraging step in his recovery. The forward had contributed four goals and three assists across seven league appearances before the injury, and his return gives coach Bruce Arena an important attacking option back in contention.
Targeting end of month return
Werner (hamstring) could be back in action either in late May or shortly after the World Cup, according to manager Bruce Arena, Favian Renkel of Kickbase MLS reports.
Analysis: Werner has made seven league appearances this season, contributing four goals and three assists, so his status is a major concern for the squad as he works on his rehabilitation from a muscle problem. The forward will be inactive for at least a couple more games, with Jack Skahan featuring on the left wing instead.
