Fathy generated three tackles (one won), one clearance and one interception in Wednesday's 3-1 defeat to Bosnia and Herzegovina. In addition, he was given a yellow card in the 78th minute.
Analysis: Fathy, who came off the bench in the first two matches, made his first career World Cup start Wednesday. He occupied central midfield, playing a defensive-minded role and not providing much going forward. He won three duels and won tackle, in addition to recording one interception, one clearance and one blocked shot on the defensive end. His contributions weren't enough to prevent Bosnia and Herzegovina from attacking fairly freely and ultimately knocking Qatar out of the competition. With Fathy now 33, only time will tell if he'll be able to return for the 2030 World Cup, should Qatar qualify again.

Analysis: Fathy was subbed in at halftime and managed to record just nine passes. He registered just one pass and also made two blocks and a clearance. He covered four kilometers in the 41 minutes he was on the pitch, before being taken off in the 87th minute.
