Makes nine clearances
Ibrahim had one tackle (one won) and nine clearances in Friday's 1-1 (5-3) penalty shootout win versus Australia. In addition, he was given a yellow card in the 120th minute.
Analysis: Ibrahim was busy at the back, facing a physical Australian attacking line, but he led the team in clearances and posted a strong overall showing. Ibrahim has started in three of Egypt's four matches and has tallied at least seven clearances in his past three contests. He should remain in the XI for the Round of 16 clash against Argentina on Tuesday.
Strong showing after early call
Yasser Ibrahim registered four tackles (three won) and seven clearances in Friday's 1-1 draw versus Iran. In addition, he was given a yellow card in the 42nd minute.
Analysis: Yasser was initially given a rest but was called into action after just 14 minutes when Mohamed Abdelmoneim picked up an injury, and his introduction brought immediate solidity to the backline. He was exceptional defensively, contributing four tackles, seven clearances and two blocks including a crucial stop in the final action of the game. Having now played all three group stage games he has accumulated six tackles, two interceptions and 18 clearances across those appearances and is expected to be in the starting XI for the first knockout game against Australia.
Records eight clearances
Ibrahim logged eight clearances, one tackle won and one interception during Egypt's 3-1 win Sunday against New Zealand.
Analysis: For the most part, his latest logs are similar. Against both New Zealand and Belgium in the World Cup, he logged an interception and a tackle, and even his pass tallies are barely different. But compared to Belgium, New Zealand packed a better punch, which is how Ibrahim recorded more than twice as many clearances Sunday. Between his appearances, he logged 11 clearances, the only Egyptian with more than 10 this WC. If center-back partner Hamdy Fathy (undisclosed) is out, Egypt's defense will rely a whole lot more on Ibrahim to be intact, and potentially added clearances for the healthy defender.
Disciplined display at center back
Yasser Ibrahim had one tackle (one won), three clearances and one interception in Monday's 1-1 draw against Belgium.
Analysis: Yasser started at center back next to Hamdy Fathy and helped form a defensive partnership that frustrated Belgium's attack for large parts of the game. One tackle, one interception and three clearances did not fully capture his impact, as it was the sustained pressure he applied that defined his performance. He has featured in all of Egypt's biggest games and is set to keep his place when they take on New Zealand in what will be a must-win fixture.
