Passable outing in Belgium clash

Payne won one tackle and had one shot (zero on goal), two crosses (zero accurate) and two clearances in Friday's 5-1 loss to Belgium.

Analysis: Payne had trouble keeping up with the opponents like most of his teammates, but he turned in a good effort on both ends and picked up stats across the board. However, he lost track of the ball on an early corner kick, inadvertently leading to Leandro Trossard's tap-in. He has posted multiple crosses, racking up 10 (one accurate), at least one clearance, totaling five, and one or more tackles, accumulating four (three won), in all three outings, assisting once and adding one off-target shot, three corners and one block during that span.

Assists opener Sunday

Payne assisted once to go with five crosses (one accurate) and two corners in Sunday's 3-1 loss to Egypt.

Analysis: Payne helped open up the scoring Sunday as his corner in the 15th minute was taken beautifully and found a wide-open Finn Surman who easily headed the ball into the back of the net. It marked Payne's first ever World Cup goal contribution, and it came on his lone chance created in the match. He also recorded five crosses and took two corners on the attack. He and the defense struggled in the second half though, allowing three second half goals from Egypt. Next up is a must-win match versus Belgium on Friday.
