Appears as substitute against Torino
Modric had two crosses (one accurate) and two corners in Sunday's 2-1 win over Torino.
Analysis: Modric was expected to start after being active in offseason friendly games, but he was instead given 34 minutes of play as Ardon Jashari's backup. While the season opener may have come too soon for the veteran to make a full-match performance, he remains one of the team's midfield leaders, capable of making a difference through attacking play generation and long-range shooting. He's also likely to retain set-piece duties after taking two corner kicks over his short time on the field Sunday.
Five crosses in last WC game
Modric generated five crosses (two accurate) and four corners in Thursday's 2-1 defeat to Portugal. In addition, he was given a yellow card in the 59th minute.
Analysis: Modric sent in the second-most crosses for Croatia in his last World Cup game in the career. The midfielder co-led his side in chances created as well, while taking four of their five corner kicks. He finished the competition with one assist, seven chances created and 11 crosses in four starts.
