Concedes fives goals

Chamakh registered one save and allowed five goals in Sunday's 5-1 loss to Sweden.

Analysis: Chamakh endured one of the most difficult individual evenings a goalkeeper can experience in Sunday's 5-1 defeat to Sweden, beaten five times from Sweden's 13 total attempts, including twice by Yasin Ayari's stunning long-range efforts that gave him no chance, while making just one save as Sweden's clinical finishing and relentless pressing overwhelmed a Tunisian backline that offered him very little protection throughout. The goalkeeper was beaten from distance twice by Ayari in particularly painful fashion, with the Brighton midfielder's two long-range curlers highlighting the vulnerability of a Tunisian defensive unit that conceded from seven of Sweden's shots on target. His shot-stopping ability and composure under pressure will be tested again in Tunisia's remaining group games, and a significant defensive improvement in front of him will be essential if his side are to avoid a similarly heavy defeat and keep their faint World Cup ambitions alive.

Starting in friendlies

Chamakh is pushing for a starting role in Tunisia's goal after being selected over the last few international friendly matches.

Analysis: Chamakh now has a good chance of entering the World Cup as Tunisia's first choice between the posts after steadily establishing himself as a trusted presence for the national team, although he was heavily punished when he faced Belgium's strong attack in the last practice game. The goalkeeper may not carry the international reputation of some of his counterparts, but he has shown reflexes and composure when called upon. Tunisia's disciplined defensive approach should help limit the number of the opposition's high-quality chances, even though they won't face any easy test in the group stage. Still, matches against stronger sides could provide opportunities for him to rack up saves. In any case, there may be some competition between Chamakh and the experienced Aymen Dahmen.
