Converts penalty in knockout loss
Jimenez scored one goal to go with eight shots (three on goal) in Sunday's 3-2 defeat to England.
Analysis: Jimenez led Mexico's front line in an intense matchup, producing a game-high total of eight shots and ultimately seeing his effort rewarded with a penalty goal during the 69th minute. The defeat marked the end of Jimenez's World Cup campaign, and he finished with three goals over four starts. He also recorded 18 shots (seven on target) and two chances created over that span. The legendary striker is already ranked as one of the top two all-time scorers for the Mexican national team as he enters the final stretch of his career, and he's now set to play in the English Championship, returning to Wolverhampton where he experienced glorious moments in the past.
Scores goal against Ecuador
Jimenez scored one goal to go with four shots (one on goal) in Tuesday's 2-0 win versus Ecuador.
Analysis: Jimenez received the ball on the edge of the box and fired a perfectly placed strike to double his side's count in the 31st minute of Tuesday's match. The goal was his second direct contribution in three starts during the current World Cup, while the four shots tied his highest figure over that span. The experienced forward is now the lone second-best scorer in the Mexican national team's history with 47 goals in 129 appearances. He'll continue to carry a significant portion of his country's goalscoring hopes but will likely face a tougher test in the next round.
