Signs contract extension with Mainz

Silas signed a contract extension with Mainz after the club chose not to activate an existing clause following his injury, opting instead to find a more mutually beneficial arrangement, the club announced.

Analysis: Silas suffered a double fracture of the tibia and fibula during the Conference League round of 16 first leg against Sigma Olomouc in early March, bringing a premature end to what had been an impressive campaign up to that point. The Congolese forward had contributed one goal across eight Bundesliga appearances before the injury struck, with sporting director Niko Bungert describing his performances as excellent prior to the setback.
