Active in shootout victory
Freuler registered two crosses (one accurate) and one tackle in Tuesday's 0-0 (4-3) penalty shootout win versus Colombia.
Analysis: Freuler racked up 62 accurate passes, which marked his second-highest total in five starts during the international competition, as he played 120 minutes in the scoreless match. He also increased his counts to four crosses and nine clearances. The defensive midfielder has rarely left the pitch, featuring as Granit Xhaka's partner in a double pivot.
Excels in defensive role
Freuler recorded one shot (one on goal) and one chance created in Thursday's 2-0 victory against Algeria.
Analysis: Freuler registered one shot, three interceptions and one tackle across his 90 minutes in Thursday's 2-0 win over Algeria, operating as the right-sided defensive midfielder in a compact Swiss shape that absorbed Algeria's possession and launched rapid counter-attacks to devastating effect. The midfielder contributed to a collective defensive structure that limited Algeria to very few clear-cut chances throughout the match, with his pressing intelligence and ability to read transitions making him an essential component of the Swiss system heading into the round of 16.
