Leaves Everton as free agent
Gueye has become a free agent after leaving Everton at the expiration of his contract. The 36 year old midfielder returned to the club in 2022 following a spell at Paris Saint Germain and has been a regular fixture in the middle of the park since.
Analysis: Gueye made 25 Premier League appearances for Everton this season, starting all 25 and playing 2,101 minutes, contributing two goals and three assists while registering 43 tackles and 28 interceptions. He also featured for Senegal at the 2026 World Cup, appearing in all four of the nation's matches. Across his two stints with Everton, Gueye established himself as one of the club's most reliable defensive midfielders, and his exit leaves a experienced void in the middle of the park that the club will need to address this summer. With no club currently in place, his next destination will be one to watch as preseason approaches.
Two shots in loss
Gueye had two shots (one on goal) in Wednesday's 3-2 defeat to Belgium.
Analysis: Gueye closed out his World Cup campaign on Wednesday in a hard‑fought clash with Belgium, finishing the match with a shot on target, eight passes into the final third. The 36‑year‑old wraps up his third World Cup appearance having produced five shots, five chances created, and five aerials won across the tournament, offering veteran stability and experience.
