Unremarkable across five minutes
Zizo logged one shot (one on goal) and one cross (zero accurate) across five minutes during Egypt's 3-1 win Sunday against New Zealand.
Analysis: As expected, Zizo has been a reserve, with Egypt's flanks including Emam Ashour (left) and Mostafa Ziko (right) as part of an attacking quartet alongside Mohamed Salah and Omar Marmoush. Even so, the Egyptians have been looking for a backup go-to, and Zizo has logged opportunities. For the World Cup, between Egypt's two games is his 19 minutes. Despite less time Sunday, Zizo logged better opportunities against New Zealand, highlighted by a wide-open chance he took too long on after getting past goalkeeper Maxime Teremoana Crocombe. The lack of clinical fishing may indicate why Zizo has been benched for Ashour and Ziko, both with goals this tournament. At the very least, Zizo and Trezeguet appear to be Egypt's go-to backups, which can be a plus.
Potential impact substitute
Zizo is part of Egypt's World Cup squad and is pushing for minutes on the flank, coming off a productive club season with Al Ahly.
Analysis: Zizo scored against Saudi Arabia during the March international window but then failed to get involved in a goal while seeing his involvement reduced in three successive friendlies. Still, the experienced midfielder holds 61 caps and five international goals, and offers a direct, right-footed threat from wide that complements Egypt's counter-attacking system well. His club form since joining Al Ahly from Zamalek in 2025 has been rather steady, and he enters the tournament competing with Trezeguet and Emam Ashour for attacking positions next to the squad's star players Mohamed Salah and Omar Marmoush. Thus, Zizo's fantasy appeal is best framed as a rotation pick who could unlock offensive upside if given meaningful minutes.
