Left out for Toulouse trip
Kluivert was left out of the matchday squad for Lyon's Ligue 1 opener at Toulouse due to rest.
Analysis: Kluivert started the first leg against Fenerbahce just days ago and has been left out entirely as Paulo Fonseca manages the short turnaround before Wednesday's decisive second leg. Clinton Mata and Felix Bacher look like the likely center back pairing in his absence, with Moussa Niakhate also sidelined.
Trains fully in preseason
Kluivert trained fully with the Lyon squad on the first day of preseason, confirming he is back fully recovered from his pneumothorax suffered at the end of the season, the club posted.
Analysis: Kluivert had been hospitalized at halftime of the match against Lens after sustaining a chest injury at the end of the season, but his complete participation in the opening preseason session is an encouraging sign that his recovery protocol has gone smoothly. The defender ended the season with two goals, two assists, 28 tackles, 13 interceptions and 63 clearances across 22 appearances, and now looks ready to build toward the 2026/27 campaign in full health.
