Facing lengthy recovery
Amenda (calf) remains sidelined with a significant calf injury that could keep him out for up to three months, according to coach Frank Lampard. "Aurele is working away. It's a sort of up to a three-month injury, so we're working through that."
Analysis: Amenda continues his rehabilitation from a significant calf tear, with Lampard maintaining the initial recovery estimate of two to three months. Stephen Mfuni replaced him on the right side of Coventry's back three against Nottingham Forest and helped the team secure a clean sheet. Mfuni could continue in that role while Amenda works toward his return.
Set to undergo scan
Amenda will undergo a scan to determine the severity of his calf injury and is ruled out for Saturday's clash against Nottingham Forest, according to coach Frank Lampard, per Andy Turner of Coventry Live. "Calf, we don't know how bad but, yeah, it was one of the reasons I took Steph off in the second half because we're getting shorter with that injury, which is always a worry when you're playing a midweek game like this. Let's not jump to conclusions [severity], we'll see. Yeah, I would expect him not available."
Analysis: Amenda went down holding his calf in the ninth minute of Wednesday's Carabao Cup tie against Aston Villa and needed help from the club physio and an opposing player to leave the pitch, unable to walk unaided. Bobby Thomas and Ethan Pinnock figure to form the central defensive pairing in a back four if Amenda's absence forces a system change, or Joel Latibeaudiere could step in directly if Coventry maintains its back three, with the Switzerland international's absence a meaningful blow given his regular role since arriving over the summer.
Six clearances Friday
Amenda registered six clearances in Friday's 3-0 defeat versus Arsenal.
Analysis: Amenda was brought in to try and reinforce the backline, and he did just that, though not well enough to earn anything against Arsenal. He made six clearances during the one-sided rout and looked imposing in the defense. He's likely going to have plenty to do throughout the season as Coventry should be outplayed in most matches.
Transfers to Coventry City
Amenda completed a transfer from Frankfurt to Coventry City on Thursday.
Analysis: Amenda had been linked with a move to Coventry City for the better part of the last two weeks, and now the move is official. The Swiss defender started in 20 of his 29 appearances for Frankfurt between the Bundesliga and the UEFA Champions League, and he should add a versatile presence at the back since he can play both right-back and center-back with equal ease.
Quiet at right-back
Amenda had two shots (one on goal) and one chance created in Saturday's 1-1 draw versus FC Augsburg.
Analysis: Amenda got the start at right-back during Saturday's draw, and was passable. It was a decent showing, though he didn't do particularly well getting forward, creating only a single chance. That is to be expected though, Amenda is a center-back by trade and isn't nearly as comfortable in a more advanced role.
