Leader in multiple defensive stats
Anton made three interceptions, six tackles (winning four) and 11 clearances during Saturday's 0-0 draw with Union Berlin.
Analysis: Anton helped Dortmund to a clean sheet by leading his side in interceptions, tackles and clearances during the draw. The defender has combined for nine tackles, five interceptions and 22 clearances over his last three league starts.
Set to start Supercup
Anton is ready to feature in Saturday's Supercup against Bayern Munich after his delayed start to preseason, according to coach Niko Kovac. "Waldi is now at the point where I'd say he can train fully with the team and also play the match on Saturday."
Analysis: Anton had to make up lost ground after preseason began late due to his participation at the World Cup, leading Dortmund to manage his workload carefully by holding him out of the friendlies against Arsenal and AS Roma. Having now reached full fitness, the 30-year-old center back is set to return directly to the starting lineup as Dortmund open their season against Bayern.
41 minutes to end World Cup
Anton had one shot (one on goal), one cross (zero accurate) and one chance created in Monday's 1-1 (5-4) penalty shootout loss against Paraguay.
Analysis: Anton would come onto the field for the second time at the 2026 World Cup on Monday, as the defender appeared for 41 minutes, entering just ahead of the end of regulation. He would earn a shot on net and a few stats in the defense as well, although Germany were on the front foot for much of extra time. Anton only appeared for 48 minutes this World Cup, earning a clearance, two interceptions and two tackles.
