Gill registered five saves and secured a clean sheet in Friday's 1-0 victory against Turkey.
Analysis: Gill had himself a great match, saving every shot he faced in a strong bounce-back performance from his previous outing against the United States. Paraguay's defense still left him with plenty to handle, especially after the side was reduced to 10 men for much of the match. Facing 2.17 expected goals, Gill did well to compensate for the defensive mistakes in front of him and preserve the clean sheet. The amount of pressure he faced does raise questions about the workload he could continue to see going forward. His next match will be against Australia, who enter as the favorite, although it should still be a competitive matchup and another opportunity for Gill to build on this performance.
Three saves in 4-1 drubbing
Gil made three saves in Friday's 4-1 loss to the United States.
Analysis: Gill showed composure and some quality distribution, but he was largely left exposed by Paraguay's defensive breakdowns. While conceding four goals is never ideal, Paraguay's defense did little to help the 26-year-old goalkeeper. The match was a difficult World Cup debut against a U.S. side that produced one of its strongest tournament performances in decades. Up next, Paraguay faces another still challenge against Turkiye in San Francisco on Friday, June 19.
