Available for Dortmund clash
Itten (foot) appears to be an option for Friday's clash against Borussia Dortmund after being left off coach Daniel Thioune's latest injury report.
Analysis: Itten appears to have recovered from the foot knock that forced him to miss Switzerland's Nations League clash against Slovenia, with his absence from Thioune's latest injury update suggesting he's available for selection. The striker had been expected to resume full training during the international break after the issue was deemed relatively minor. He should now be in contention for Friday's matchup against Dortmund, though his exact role will depend on coach Thioune's lineup decisions.
Signs for Werder Bremen
Itten has joined Werder Bremen on a free transfer from Fortuna Dusseldorf, the club announced.
Analysis: Itten is currently with the national team at the World Cup, bringing 16 caps and five goals for his country along with experience gained at FC Basel, Lucerne, St. Gallen, Glasgow Rangers, Greuther Furth and Young Boys Bern before his move to Dusseldorf, where he scored 16 goals in 32 competitive appearances. Sporting director Peter Niemeyer praised his experience and the qualities he can add to the squad, while head coach Daniel Thioune, who previously worked with Itten in Dusseldorf, described him as a physically robust penalty-box striker who knows where the goal is. Itten expressed his excitement at joining a club with a great tradition, citing his prior relationship with Thioune as a key factor in his decision.
